April 15: Quinceñera

How long might it take
The required time to finish
Washing dishes (in the sink
In my kitchen) while I
Think “what has kept us here
In general, and why does my dish
Soap smell better than my hands
Even after my hand soap?”
Stuck together apart, she watches and
Works on finances and fine wines. I
Watch her chew and swallow the fruits
Of my 5:30–6:30 labor, and look to the open
Window at my neighbor yelling (goombily)
To some lost soul, parked in front of his (more her’s; And I don’t know her, but I know that he is new)
Driveway about getting in their car and moving out.
I, though, have a chance to stop and meditate on
The things that it might take for me to be alright.
Bill Withers reminds me the type of day any are if
I’m alive and well; and well I guess the best way
Is to say the dishes give me crucial alone time and Opportunity to drink and dance to music in my kitchen.
And if only for that, I’d cook twice at a time and fill
The dishes in the sink until they tower and spill.
