April 25 — Raise Your Chin

--

Raise your chin a little higher.
Set your jaw to bite through steel.
All the world has caught on fire.
I was wondering how you feel.

Yesterday, the world was kinder.
Just a glimpse of days to come.
In the wind, the storms behind ya.
Up ahead, the brightest sun.

Long enough, to see horizons
In the creases of my mind.
They were hazy when I’d spy them
Playing Hide and Seek with time.

Raise your chin a little higher.
Set your jaw to bite through steel.
All the world has caught on fire.
I was wondering how you feel.

We don’t mourn the silent losses.
Shed no tears for might have been.
No one sees the heavy crosses
We must carry ‘round that bend.

Wrap your arms around the whisper.
Shed a single, breathy tear.
Kiss the blessings that you wish for
Someday muddy puddles clear.

Raise your chin a little higher.
Set your jaw to chew through steel.
Though the world has caught on fire,
Pardon me, for I must kneel.
