April 29 — New

I saw new
today
in the wind beneath
our limbs
our feet didn’t leave the ground
but I saw new
in the flittering wave of my hair
and the sag
in your not-shoulders
but the sleeve of another
big sweater
I saw new in the laughter of
hands at the
family piano
I saw new in the way your arms
locked themselves around me
when I told you
that the scowl
that crowds my face
doesn’t moreso greater
The saturated
lip quivers in my mind that
say
I know
we’re both here
me for you
you for me
alone
in this together
and theres no one
with whom I’d rather
soak in this left waiting rain.
I saw new today
in you
and I saw new today in me.
we’ll see new one day
in ours.
