Slides

PJR

When I was young, and my father
Who is and was naturally inclined to and
Still wanted to teach kids something,
He took me to a colleagues for some
Slides.

I spent the whole time waiting for the
Reason I thought to wear shorts for
The water. And I spent most of that
Time sliding and my clothes were never
Wet.

Instead it was flits of photographs
Taken for something important to
Someone, but I couldn’t imagine a
Trip that long that didn’t end with
Slides.

It may have been because the length
Was similar to the shorter migrations
Of summers past to parks where you
Could stand on a bridge and still get
Wet.

And once we got free hot dogs because
Of Pop-pop, so the expectation never
Really ended. And I left that trip hungry,
And offended that someone would call these
Slides.

Then today the little citrus thing decided
It was time to play; the park not very far
Away, we ignored the clouds and swung and
Slid. I hid her face from rain as we ran to the car,
Wet.
